Ukrspetstekhnika Holding Company is developing a quick-welded antenna for the Malakhit radar, – said Vera Koshevaya, chairman of the board of JSC “Holding Company Ukrspetstekhnika” in a commentary to the information agency “Defense and Industrial Courier”.
“We started developing this antenna about three years ago. The need to create a quick-waved antenna dictated the changed conditions of use of radar, – said Koshevaya.
– If before the war they were, as a rule, de facto stationary and for a long time remained in places of permanent dislocation, and in the case of transportation it could be carried out without haste, today the situation has changed. In the conditions of a military threat, a relatively small – albeit constantly replenishing – the park of the radar station should provide cover for a huge territory, due to which the mobility of the stations ceased to be theoretical. Another factor was the relative complexity of the rapid deployment of modern mobile radars with a fixed antenna system. If the Soviet P-18, located on two cars, the crew was 4 people, then our Malachite radar is already located on one car with a crew of two people, which greatly improved mobility, but created new difficulties – because the P-18 deployed could handle twice as many soldiers. Thus, the quick-release antenna has become a necessity. ”
According to the chairman of the Board of JSC “HK” Ukrspettechnika “, in this development, the specialists, above all, wanted to ensure a balance of reliability and cost-effectiveness of the design.
“We managed to save the configuration of the Malachite antenna, which, in turn, is inspired by the design of the P-18 – since this antenna has excellent characteristics, it was well-calculated at the time and does not require any revisions. Other Ukrainian manufacturers in their work on similar products, after changing the configuration faced with the problem of changing the diagram. The antenna height will be fixed at 6.35 m, as opposed to the usual P-18 antenna and Malachite, where the height varies from 6.35 to 9.35. The change in height, in our opinion, only complicates and increases the design, without providing a significant increase in efficiency. During the operation, adjustments may be made. ”
“The manufacturing stage is finished, we proceed to the internal tests at the testing ground, as part of the complex. There are a few questions remaining about the cover of the antenna during transportation, but they will not affect the design, – summed up Koshevaya.
