On March 14 in Kyiv, the Institute of Legislation of the Verkhovna Rada, an international conference entitled “Legislative Provision of Parliamentary Control in the Defense Industrial Complex of Ukraine” was held.

The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, Chairman of the Interdepartmental Commission for Defense Industry Yuriy Brovchenko, director of the National Institute for Strategic Studies, Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, academician Vladimir Gorbulin, deputies of Ukraine, executive director of the National Committee for Industrial Development Anatoliy Hirschfeld, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Science and Education Oleksiy Skrypnyk, Vice-Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Budget Viktor Krivenko; CEO DK “Ukroboronprom” Pavel Bukin, chairman of the League of defense companies of Ukraine Oleg Vysotsky, director of a number of public and private enterprises of the defense industry of Ukraine, representatives of associations of defense enterprises, Deputy Director of the Institute of Legislation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ambassador of Ukraine Yevhen Bershede, Deputy Director of the Geneva Center for Democratic Control over Armed Forces, Philip Flourry.

During the conference, Director of the Center for Research on Army, Conversion and Disarmament Valentyn Badrak presented the study “Privatization and Supervision of the Production of Defense Products in Ukraine” and the “Regulatory Framework for the Prevention of the Spread of Critical Technologies” by the experts of the Central Research and Development Agency of Ukraine.

During the two panels of the same names in these panel studies, the participants of the event discussed topical issues of the legislative provision of parliamentary control in the Ukrainian Defense Ministry. The moderators of the panels were Oleg Bryushkovsky, Chairman of the Expert Council at the Center for Army, Conversion and Disarmament Studies Leonid Polyakov and the Executive Director of the Board of the League of Defense Enterprises of Ukraine.

As a result of the discussions, recommendations will be prepared on improving the legislative support of the Ukrainian defense industry, which will be sent to the relevant state bodies of Ukraine.
