President of Ukraine signed the Law “On National Security of Ukraine”: the transition of the defense and security sector of Ukraine to NATO standards is systematized

The Head of State called this Law historic and said that Ukrainian authorities, representatives of the defense and security sector, our international partners worked on it for more than two years.

President Petro Poroshenko especially emphasizes the positions in the new Law “On National Security of Ukraine” clearly reflected in the integration of Ukraine into European structures. “This is our return to the European family of peoples, in the European political, economic, security, legal space, even before becoming a member of the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization,” the President emphasized during the signing of the Law.

He also said that the preparation of constitutional amendments is now being completed on the implementation of the goal enshrined in this Law: “We will introduce a draft of the relevant amendments to the Constitution to the Ukrainian Parliament.”

The Head of the Ukrainian State stressed that this Law is historic, because for the first time, uniting the other three Laws, the interoperability of the defense and security sector with the defense capabilities of the North Atlantic Alliance will take place.

“There are revolutionary changes in the defense and security sector in Ukraine. The law defines the fundamental national interests of Ukraine – that the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other forces must protect “, – said the President and noted that the work on this document was very difficult.

According to Petro Poroshenko, the power structures, in accordance with the new law, must first of all protect state sovereignty and territorial integrity, independence of our state, democratic constitutional system and prevent interference in the internal affairs of Ukraine.

“Today, Ukraine has much better opportunities to protect itself,” he said, stressing that this was possible due to the hard work that “practically created from the ground a new army, a new police force, restored the National Guard, significantly strengthened the capabilities of the Security Service Ukraine “.

The President also outlined another fundamental principle of security: sustainable development of the national economy, civil society and the state in order to ensure an increase in the level and quality of life of the population.

The President noted that the Law will systematize the transition of the defense and security sector of our country to the rules, principles and standards of NATO. He noted that “before 2014, according to the legislation of Ukraine, representatives of the experts, advisers of NATO were banned from entering the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the SBU and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine”.

“To date, positions have been adopted that will ensure effective cooperation and interoperability, up to the future membership,” the President emphasized, describing the radical changes in the security and defense sector of Ukraine. He also said that the Law developed the provisions of the three Laws that were still in force – “On the Fundamentals of National Security of Ukraine”, “On the Organization of Defense Planning” and “On Democratic Civilian Control over the Military Organization and Law Enforcement Bodies of the State”.
